National Congress Priorities
Top concerns were aimed at increased safety for our senior citizens. First is the Silver Alert, like the amber alert for children, now law in 11 states, which would protect seniors with cognitive impairments who are missing. Second is the Elder Justice Resolution, upgrading from misdemeanor to felony many acts of violence against seniors and improving prosecution for elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. Third is a National Background Check and Registry for anyone working with seniors.
Yet another priority voted into a resolution was to increase Funding for Home and Community Based Services, designed to help seniors stay in their own homes as long as they are able. The last priority was for Mandatory Geriatric Education for health care professionals who deal with seniors.
